The perfect place to tell the story of the flooding is the King Albert I monument on the edge of the Lock complex “The Ganzepoot”. Under the monument, Nieuwpoort has set up a contemporary and interactive visitor centre. A highlight of the visit is certainly the projection of the revived Yser Panorama, originally a painting 115 meters long by 15 meters high. Do not forget to take the lift to the top of the King Albert I monument itself to enjoy the panorama over the coast and the polders of the Westhoek. @en |

Westfront Nieuwpoort toont het volledige verhaal van de onderwaterzetting van de poldervlakte, waardoor de Duitse invasie voor Nieuwpoort tot staan werd gebracht. Een verhaal over de kracht van het zeewater en het slim dirigeren van sluizen en sassen. De uitgelezen plaats om het verhaal van de onderwaterzetting te vertellen is het Koning Albert I – monument aan de rand van het Sluizencomplex “De Ganzepoot”. Onder het monument heeft Nieuwpoort een eigentijds en interactief bezoekerscentrum ingericht. Een hoogtepunt van het bezoek is zeker de projectie van het tot leven gewekte IJzerpanorama, oorspronkelijk een schilderij van 115 meter lang bij 15 meter hoog. Vergeet ook niet de lift te nemen naar de top van het Koning Albert I- monument zelf om er te genieten van het panorama over de kust en de polders van de Westhoek. @nl |
